There is ‘fairy magic’ at Chicago Botanic Gardens, and you will discover more about it as you make your own fairy houses and furniture with fairy artist, Tatiana Katara.

Do you believe in faeries? Tatiana Katara will lead two delightful workshops sure to bring out your inner child and to whisk you away to a fantasy world. These lovely faerie cottages and furniture pieces will add a touch of whimsy to your home or sheltered garden area. It's a time to relax, enjoy each other's company, and take home something special to make you smile later.

Faerie Furniture Workshop
Make fanciful miniature furniture for your favorite faeries or elves! Using twigs, log slices, cedar shingles, beads, leaf skeletons, seeds, nuts, and/or other tiny embellishments, you will build a whimsical bed, table, and chair as well as other furnishings and accessories, time permitting.

Bring a sense of whimsy along with some beads, buttons, fabric for tiny beds or pillows, lace, ribbon (lamp shades), wooden spools (table bases), variously sized buttons (table tops, plates, dishes), dried or fabric flowers, and items from nature to use, trade, or share. Be prepared to get creative and, most of all, to have fun.

Faerie cottage workshop
Spend a delightful day creating a whimsical cottage fit for a faerie! Tatiana will provide the cottage structure and lots of materials. You are encouraged to bring beads, flowers, lace, bark, moss, buttons, and/or some of the tiny treasures you don't have a use for. It's a great time to trade and share!

Whatever you find or bring to class is fuel for your playful imagination! You are sure to leave with a sense of creative accomplishment and peace.

FATHER'S DAY Faerie picnic

The Friends of Donald Park and Dane County Parks staff invite families to the annual Donald Park celebration and picnic, "Bring Your Pop to Pop's Knoll," on Father's Day, Sunday, June 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Discover the dwellings of Donalld Parks tiniest, most seldom-seen residents in this year's event, entitled FAIRY HOUSES AND GNOME HOMES.  There are activities for everyone!  At noon, there will be a presentation by Wisconsin artist Tatiana Katara, whose exquisite Faerie houses, cottages, and furniture have been featured in galleries across the country.  Families will be able to discover Tatiana's creations hidden around Pop's Knoll, then build fairy and
gnome dwellings of their own using natural materials.  There will be fairy sightings: aerial antics by members of Cycropia Aerial Dance and the Mazo Flyers; and musical entertainment by Debi Griffin.  For those that want to venture further on to the park trails, the popular hobby of Letterboxing will be featured where families follow clues posted in the shelter to find a box of tiny treasures, select one, and return the box to its hiding place for the next family.

For creating fairy and gnome homes, families are encouraged to bring a bag of natural materials such as bark, sticks, small stones, leaves, dried flowers, shells, nuts, pine cones, and seed pods.

Admission to the event is free, hot dogs and root beer floats will be on sale.  Some tables and grills available for picnics.  Pop's Knoll is Donald Park's picnic area, located 4 miles southeast of Mt. Horeb on Hwy. 92.  For more information, call

ANNUAL WORKSHOPS

I teach an array of proprietary workshops based on my artwork.

The faerie workshops range from faerie furniture and faerie cottages, faerie treeforts and entire villages, to modified dollhouses, faerie wings, wands, tiaras and accessories.

I also do workshops using blacklight paint, which range from collaborative painting to blacklight faerie wings, funbrellas, rave and festival attire, bedroom furniture and accessories.

CAUTION: In my workshops, children must be accompanied by an adult.  We will be using hot glue guns and clippers, so it's possible to get burned or cut if you aren't careful or skilled with these tools.  I will be able to assist you if you need help.
